At the New York Auto Show, Hyundai unveiled details on a great little crossover named Kona. The biggest news about the Kona electric is that the production vehicle will have an estimated range of 250 miles per charge, which is more than the Chevy Bolt and the regular erosion of the Tesla Model 3.
Diving deeper into the details, the front-wheel-drive vehicle will come with a 64kWh battery that can be charged to 80 percent via DC fast charging in 54 minutes. The level two charging will take about nine hours and 35 minutes which basically means that you’ll have to leave it charging overnight.
The vehicle comes with a single motor that outputs 201 horsepower and 291 pounds of torque. It’s producing plenty of power to the wheels and bringing more power than the 1.6-liter turbo found in the upper trim levels of the gas-powered version of Kona.
Most of the Kona is fairly similar, though the EV Kona does away with the traditional front grill and instead comes with a cross-hatched surface. The charging port has been placed on the front of the car. Sometimes the parking space may not be friendly, so having the port in front of the car is more friendly.
The automaker announced that the car would be available in California in late 2018. Availability will expand to coastal regions and rest of the world after that.
