We knew that Disney has been planning to launch its standalone ESPN streaming service this spring and how much it will cost, but now we have details as to when the service will launch. Announced today, the ESPN+ subscription will debut on April 12th, and that’s the date you can expect to see a library of sports content that includes live event coverage, ESPN originals and on-demand options for $5 a month.
The streaming service will be integrated into the ESPN app. The networks say that the ESPN+ subscription will offer access to live coverage of games and events from MLB, NHL, MLS, colleges sports, boxing, PGA golf, tennis and more. Additionally, ESPN+ will be available through the web on ESPN.com.
The introduction of ESPN+ comes as the network struggles with the cord-cutting movement and keeping up with the trends. If the price is set at $5 a month for the service, it will certainly be very attractive, but we’ll just wait and see how well it does after launch.
