As the market for luxurious EVs grows, so does the car manufacturers that are joining. This time, luxury automaker Mercedes-Benz is joining the lot. While chatting with Autocar, the company’s large car division leader Michael Kelz promised an electric car “at the level” of the high-end S-Class sedan.
Unsurprisingly, the exec didn’t provide many details regarding the EV, but did say that it’s EQ S name and noted that it wouldn’t share the S-Class’ underpinning. We’re expecting the EQ design language to find its way into this model as well.
Previously, the automaker promised electric versions of all its cars by 2022, and we’re expecting the EQ S to be ready as soon as 2020. The company has been moving towards mild hybrids, which offer brief use of electricity for extended stop-start systems and small amounts of boost to power to help with the turbo lag.
