Last month, we heard Reddit chief Steve Huffman admit that the company discovered hundreds of accounts that were directly linked to the spread of Russian propaganda on its platform. Now we know exactly how many accounts were banned
As part of its annual transparency report, Reddit has named all 944 users (have since been banned) that it believes were created by Russian troll farm Internet Research Agency. When digging into the details, the accounts have no karma points, and on the platform, it basically means that they had no significant impact on the community.
Of the 944 accounts, 13 were with over 10,000 karma points. Unsurprisingly, the user with almost 100,000 points was a frequent poster of pro-Trump community “The Donald” and “Hillary for Prison.”
While there were a total of 944 accounts and from overall view of Reddit’s transparency report, it doesn’t sound like it had as bad as Facebook did. Huffman said that none of the accounts placed an on on the platform, and according to their team’s investigation, it didn’t “detect any effective use of [the] accounts to engage in vote manipulation.”
