Data protection and privacy have become a big issue around the world. Big tech companies like Instagram must take appropriate action to ensure the privacy and safety of user data. Now, for all Instagram users, you will be able to download your data, thanks to UK’s upcoming Data Protection Bill.
The Data Protection Bill requires companies to allow its users to easily move their data from one service to another. Because of this, Instagram has confirmed to TechCrunch that it’s currently building a new data portability tool that will allow users to download a copy of everything that’s on service, including messages, photos and videos.
Having this type of tool will make it easier for people to move their data between social networks. Facebook even offers Download Your Information tool that lets users download their entire Facebook data, and is seen as a way to #DeleteFacebook. This tool will help Instagram comply with the European Union’s General Dat Protection Regulation (GDPR), it could also help users protect their precious memories by having a locally-stored backup of their Instagram feeds.
TechCrunch says that details of how the Instagram data will arrive on your computer and additional details about the Instagram tool will be given as the launch date gets closer.
