Telegram will now be facing blocks from Iran‘s ISPs. Iranian officials have instructed ISPs to start blocking both the desktop and mobile versions of Telegram within the country. Additionally, ISPs have been told to make it so that the service can’t be accessed through any means, even with VPN.
Reuters reported that Iran‘s judiciary website Mizan, said, “All internet providers in Iran must take steps to block Telegram’s website and app as of April 30.” Per the website, Telegram apparently threatened Iran‘s security through “propaganda against the establishment, terrorist activities, spreading lies to incite public opinion, anti-government protests and pornography.”

In December of last year, Iran had temporarily blocked Telegram to “maintain peace” while all the protests were happening around the country. Iran isn’t the only country to counter Telegram because a Russian court has already issued a ban on Telegram earlier this month.
