Apple announced today that their service, Apple Pay, is now available at CVS Pharmacy. Previously, in an investor call, Tim Cook said that the service support for US-based drugstore chain would be coming as well as 7-Eleven, which made the transition earlier in September.
Interestingly, the stores already had terminals that accepted Apple Pay, but had their NFC functionality disabled. The reason is because 7-Eleven and CVS were part of the rival payment system called CurrentC.
Speaking of CurrentC and its members, Target and Walmart, early members of CurrentC, do not support Apple Pay in their stores. It’s currently not known how long they will hold out or if they will even bring Apple Pay support in the future. In terms of Costco, they added APple Pay support in August.
