Apple earlier this month announced the iPhone 8 and iPhone X phones. iPhone X hasn’t even hit the shelves yet and we are already hearing rumors of Apple’s next year iPhone 9 lineup. According to new rumors reported by The Bell, a local Korean newspaper cited by Korea Herald, Apple is set to go all-in on big screen sizes with three new devices.
Citing local parts makers, the report said Apple had originally given panel orders to Samsung Display, its sole OLED supplier, under a plan to launch three OLED iPhones next year — 5.28-, 5.85-, and 6.46-inch models. But the report said the development work for the 5.28-inch model has recently been suspended possibly due to the low marketability of the smaller version.
Apple is expected to launch two new OLED iPhones and one LCD iPhone next year, according to the report. It’s expected that the OLED devices will have 5.85-inch and 6.46-inch screen sizes, and the LCD device is expected to have a screen size bigger than 6 inches.
Talking about this year, the iPhone X has a 5.8-inch OLED screen size. If these rumors are true, going forward, that’s the smallest screen size that Apple will make. It’s expected that the 6.5-inch OLED device will be a Plus phone or sort. The LCD phone could potentially be a budget phone since LCD’s are cheaper than OLED screens.
Since bigger screen sizes are becoming a new and hot trend right now, The Korea Herald notes that Apple is expected to go all-in on big screen sizes. Since the iPhone X boasts a large screen but a smaller body, would it surprise anyone that Apple introduces large screen sizes but reduces the overall body of the size like they did with the iPhone X? Maybe, maybe not. Only time will tell.
