eSports is on the rise as a handful of TV networks have already started to incorporate more eSports offerings in their lineups. Now eSports seems to be making its way to your TV with on demand services. Hulu and ESL have teamed up to create four new eSports series.
ESL Senior VP of Global Media Rights and Distribution Nik Adams in a statement said that “Esports appeals to a younger, more digitally savvy audience so Hulu is a perfect platform to build out our original content and expose the world of esports to new audiences.”
Let’s dive a little into what the series are. Starting with Player V. Player, it will be a gamified debate show featuring eSports influences discussing all of the atest eSports topics in the industry. They will earn points as they debate and wrap up each show by playing a classic video game.
Next we have Bootcamp, where they will follow CS:GO team The Immortals as they find three new players and train for November’s IEM Oakland event. Quite interesting to see a perspective of players in their daily life and operations.
We now have Defining Moments. This is a series that covers the major, history-defining moments of all eSports. Each episode will focus on a specific theme, such as controversial movies and reflex skills, and trick-shots.
Lastly, we have what’s called ESL Replay. This show will be a quick-paced, documentary-style recap of the best moments from four of the biggest eSports tournaments around the world.
Recently, we have seen ESPN dive into the eSports host and several other networks such as TBS, NBA, and Disney XD are diving into eSports as well. All four of the series are set to premiere this fall, so be on the look out. Hulu said that it plans to spend around $2.5 billion on content this year and eSports is a nice place to start.
