Soon, instead of having to swipe and sign on the iPad, you will be able to sign on a Square Register. Square today unveiled their new payment register system. It’s a tablet-like device that will run only Square’s checkout software.
This new register system is an alternative to mobile devices, other tablets, and even Square’s contactless chip readers. So, what’s exactly different with this new register system? Well, to be direct, the main advantage here is that it’s switching away from tablets and mobile devices and that will make it less likely for people to steal the Square Registers, says Square in a blog post.
“A built-in seller display means you don’t have to worry about iPad theft”, Square says. Businesses and individuals still have the option to use iPads and mobile devices with Square instead of the register. Though the company is saying that this new product is a better option.
You will also no longer need to swing the iPad around for you to sign since the Square Register comes with a customer-facing display. The register also saves the hassle by automatically checking for software updates and can be connected over Wi-Fi or Ethernet. There is also an option for offline mode, in case you experience an outage. The new system also comes with a five-port USB hub, two-year warranty, and lets you swipe, insert a chip, or tap for payment.
Square Register will cost you $999, or $49 a month for 24 months.
