After years of legal battles with Apple, a pair of brothers — Vincenzo and Giacomo Barbato — have won the right to call their company “Steve Jobs,” according to la Repubblica Napoli. Now, there’s not much that Apple can do.
The fight originally started back in 2012, when the two brothers noticed that Apple never trademarked Jobs’ name. Both were in the process of starting their own clothing and accessory company, and decided that calling their company “Steve Jobs,” after Apple’s iconic founder, would be perfect for their brand.
As expected, Apple sued the two brothers over the trademark. According to la Repubblica Napoli, Apple may have received this loss in court by attacking the brothers specifically over their Steve Jobs logo because of the stylized letter “J” with a bite taken out of the side and a very Apple-esque leaf. The court then ruled that the letter “J” isn’t edible and there bite could not be ripping off Apple’s own iconic logo. Therefore, trademark by the two brother’s was upheld.
