Apple is partnering up with two automakers to bring an introductory offer to its music subscription service. At the same time, it could potentially help Apple do some damage to Spotify’s subscription base.
Fiat Chrysler Automobiles on Tuesday said that it will start a year-long promotion, beginning May 1st, that includes a six-month subscription to Apple Music for new users with the purchase of every new Chrysler, Fiat, Dodge, Jeep or Ram model vehicles that come equipped with Apple CarPlay. For those that already subscribe to Apple Music, the promotion will cover you three months of subscription.
In addition to Apple partnering with Fiat Chrysler, the iPhone maker is partnering with Volkswagen in Europe to offer a similar trials deal beginning May. VW vehicles that come equipment with CarPlay will get new car buyers the same promotion, the automaker announced.
Earlier, we reported that Apple had around 36 million users (30 million of which are in US), comparing to Spotify’s 70 million paying subscribers. While Spotify may have a sizable lead over Apple right now, the iPhone maker is going different rote to attract new customers and lessen the gap.
