On Wednesday, Facebook founder and CEO Mark Zuckerberg will testify before Congress about several range of topics, including data privacy. Ahead of the heading, Congress has released a copy of his statement.
In the statement, Zuckerberg is taking responsibility for Facebook’s failures over the past several years and makes a pledge to do better. You’re able to view the full text of the statement over at CNBC.
“[I]t’s clear now that we didn’t do enough to prevent these tools from being used for harm as well,” Zuckerberg says in his statement. “That goes for fake news, foreign interference in elections, and hate speech, as well as developers and data privacy. We didn’t take a broad enough view of our responsibility, and that was a big mistake. It was my mistake, and I’m sorry. I started Facebook, I run it, and I’m responsible for what happens here.”
Additionally, Zuckerberg provides an outline of how the company got to the point where the Cambridge Analytica scandal occurred, and what the company is doing to improve and prevent anything like this from happening again.
