Delta is moving in the direction of providing easy convenience for its flyers. The company is doing away with the standard check-in process that modern flying companies and customers are using. Delta passengers’ boarding process will automatically be sent out 2 hours prior to the flight taking place, as long as you have the Delta mobile app.
This change was noted in the iOS version of the Fly Delta app. If you hate those long lines of checking in at the airport or even the online check-in process, it can be a pain. The company is now making it easier to travel.
This is a notable change because right now, no other airline in the US offers this option. German airline Lufthansa does offer automatic check-in, and JetBlue did try a short pilot program with select customers in 2014. This is the first time an airline officially in the US has taken the feature fully public.
Right now, it’s unclear how Delta plans to handle other aspects of checking in, such as bag check and seat changes. It also looks like if you don’t have the Fly Delta app, you may not get your boarding pass to your email and will have to go through the normal check-in process online.
