Dish DVRs will soon be working with Google Assistant

Whether of not you should have Google Assistant isn’t really the right question anymore because Dish thinks that you should be able to talk with your set-top box directly. Since Alexa support is now spreading like wildfire, Google Assistant is now receiving some love too.

Dish announced a promise that Google Assistant control will be coming to its Hopper DVR, Joey client and Wally receiver. You will soon be able to search for shows, change the channel and control playback just by talking to your phone or a smart speaker like the Google Home. Right now, there was no mention of recording, but that limitation is also with Alexa.

Don’t get too excited though. Just because Dish said Google Assistant is coming doesn’t mean it will come quickly. The company is promising support “in the coming months,” which means that you will be using Assistant perhaps by middle of the year. Adding Google Assistant will make Dish’s TV service one one of the friendliest for voice control. If you’re a Dish user, you should have some level of excitement already.
