Yesterday, Essential broke some bad news to its users, saying that they won’t be receiving a stable release of Android Oreo 8.0, despite it being available through the company’s beta program for the past several months. The company cites “several stability issues” as the reason why Android Oreo 8.0 will not be coming to users.
The company hopes to eventually bring Oreo 8.1 to users and says that making this changes pushes the public release back a couple weeks, but there still isn’t an exact date for the release.
For those of you who are participating in Essential’s beta program, you can test out Oreo 8.1. It’s worth mentioning that any Essential owner is a let o put Oreo on their device, just as long as you’re comfortable with the occasional bug that appears. While Essential users have been waiting for Android Oreo, Pixel owners have been enjoying Oreo 8.1 for months now. The update was previously rolled out in December, which included updated emoji and a feature that displays the speeds of nearby open Wi-Fi networks.
