Facebook has reportedly put a pause on smart speaker plans

The smart speaker market is booming quite a bit that even Facebook wanted in on it, but now things seemed to have changed. Bloomberg reports that Facebook has decided to put a pause on its smart speaker plans that was set to be unveiled at its F8 developer event.

Despite wanting to compete with the likes of Echo, Home and HomePod, it appears that the social media company has considered its current privacy debacle and has decided to pause the product because it’s not the right time to try and sell it to customers. With the recent privacy debacle, Facebook users wouldn’t want an always-listening assistant/video chat device with built-in facial recognition near them at all times.

Once Facebook (and everyone for that matter) has moved on from the recent privacy issues that have risen up for the company, we may see the product being revisited and released to the public.
