When Google’s Pixel Buds first launched, they weren’t the most polished, but it appears that the search engine giant hasn’t forgotten about them. Our friends over at 9to5Google has discovered a couple of new features for the Pixel Buds that are showing in the latest beta version of the Google app.
9to5Google decompile the beta app’s APK and found lines of codes that are hinting at new double and triple tap features for the earbuds. For instance, if you double Tao the right earbud right now, it will list all Assistant features you can currently use or pause Assistant while it’s speaking. In the future, however, you will also be able to use the gesture to skip the next track when you’re listening to music.
Google appears to also be working on two new ways to manually to switch the earbuds off: first is by triple tapping the right earbud, and second is by taking the right earbud off. The latter gesture would be a smart move and similar to how the AirPods function. At first, Google envisioned gestures as a way to pause music, but the company must have decided that double tapping is a better option.
If you wanted to switch off the earbuds currently, you have to put them back in their charging case. Being able to manually switch them off will bring more flexibility and options to users, if Google does indeed push these features out.
