Jaguar has been teasing the concept of its first all-electric car for two years now, and we’re finally getting to see it. The British automaker Jaguar has finally revealed the production model of the I-Pace SUV. The SUV, a sharply-styled, five-seater crossover is aimed at high end car market, which is typically where Jaguar operates in. The new I-Pace crossover is a direction competitor to the Tesla Model X electric SUV that will go on sale later this year.
At the Geneva Motor Show, Jaguar unveiled the I-Pace and the starting price will be $69,500. That’s $10,000 cheaper than the base level of the Tesla Model X, and $5,000 less than the most affordable Model S. Jaguar priced the I-Pace fairly competitively given that it has a 240 miles of range, all-wheel drive, DC fast charging, and an impressive infotainment system, all of which will match up to the features found in the Model X or S.
The $69,500 price is actually before any federal or state incentives come in. Depending on where you live in the US, you could combine the $7,500 federal EV tax credit with any other state offer for an eventual deduction of up to $10,000. This could give Jaguar quite the edge against Tesla when it comes to taking the market share for the premium EV, which is still relatively small in the US and around the world.
The crossover comes with a 90 kWh battery that will give you an estimate 240 miles of range, more than enough for the daily driver. When you get low on charge, Jaguar says the batteries can go from zero to 80 percent in just 40 minutes at 100kWh DC fast charging stations.
For performance, the car sports dual motors, one on each axle, combining the I-Pace to offer 394 horsepower, getting you from zero to 60 miles per hour in 4.5 seconds, Jaguar says. For comfort, the company is promising a smooth ride with the active air suspension that comes standard in the vehicle. Jaguar says it will also be including driver assistance features.
Jaguar says that it’s already taking orders for the I-Pace at retail locations, and interested customers can also place reservations on the company’s website, as they’ve been able to since they unveiled the concept. Customer deliveries of the I-Pace will start in the second half of this year.
