The year 2018 definitely wasn’t nice to Mark Zuckerberg. His company, Facebook, ran into a lot of issues, such as data breaches and privacy scandals. Along with it, however, Zuckerberg’s wealth took a hit and his company’s fortune.
In 2018, Mark Zuckerberg’s net worth fell by $9 billion. Yikes. On the Forbes 2018 global billionaires list, he fell down three places. Forbes now estimates that Zuckerberg’s net worth is about $62.3 billion, down from $71 billion last year. According to Forbes, Zuckerberg’s wealth is ties to Facebook’s performance because he currently owns 17% of the company stock.
Facebook itself took a lot of blows in 2018. The company saw multiple government investigations that forced Zuckerberg to provide Congress (and others) with much-needed answers, and several data breaches. Facebook’s stock tumbled quite a bit throughout the year, losing more than a fifth of its value overall.
