Next month at Mobile World Congress, Samsung is planning to unveil its next mobile offering, the Galaxy S9 handset. We’ve seen teasers of the Galaxy S8 successor to have camera improvements, the design aspect of the handset has been rumored to stay almost identical to the S8, and now we have some leaks regarding the device.
VentureBeat has published what they claim to be images of the Galaxy S9 and Galaxy S9+. When looking at the images, they look nearly identical to the Galaxy S8 from the front, and suggest that the S9 will pretty much have similar bezels display and feature Samsung’s Bixby button, which has been a controversial addition.
According to VentureBeat, the Galaxy S9 will feature a 5.8-inch display, will be powered by Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 845 processor in the US, have 4GB of RAM and come with 64GB of storage space. The larger Galaxy S9+ will come with a 6.2-inch display, have 6GB of RAM and come with 128GB storage. Both devices appear to be iterative hardware updates over the current S8. Besides these, the Samsung is expected to bring some good camera improvements to the S9 models including variable aperture on the primary 12-megapixel camera, allowing to to be able to switch between f/2.4 and f/1.5.
VentureBeat didn’t share any pictures of the rear of the Galaxy S9 models, but the publication claims that the fingerprint sensor will be vertically aligned with the camera, instead of being beside it (like how it currently on the S8). This improvement basically means that the fingerprint reader will be located beneath the camera on the S9, so a more natural experience by making it more accessible to the user. This goes along the lines of some videos claiming to have dummy units of the Galaxy S9.
Samsung will bring 8-megapixel selfie cameras to the Galaxy S9 models, as well as stereo speakers at the bottom. The company is expected to unveil both models next month at Mobile World Congress. VentureBeat says that the devices will then become available in store on March 16th. Are you excited for the upcoming S9 and S9+ models?
