Toyota has halted autonomous car testing program on public roads

It seems that Uber’s fatal pedestrian collision has brought some chills to other companies that are in the self-driving industry. It appears that Toyota has decided to temporarily halt public tests of its Chauffeur autonomous system due to the potential “emotional effect” on its human drivers.

At this time, it’s not certain how long the company plans to halt the program or whether it’s reviewing its own technology after learning about what happened with Uber.

Investigation is already well underway to investigating Uber’s vehicle responsibility for the tragedy. Tempe’s police chief has said that she doesn’t believe Uber was at fault, but the department is not responsible for determining the fault in any crash.
