According to a new report from Bloomberg, this year’s Apple Watch will be LTE-equipped. This new integration from Apple will allow iPhone owners to leave their iPhones behind and use their near fully-functional Apple Watch however they like. So far, you had to be within a certain range of your iPhone to take advantage of your Apple Watch.
While this is all speculation, there is still a lot that is yet to be know. Apple could offer two different models of Apple Watch. Much like how they’ve done with iPad’s, they may come out with two models, one that offers LTE capability and another that offers current experience. Maybe the new Apple Watch will require an additional data plan from your carrier.
Another factor that concerns most is battery life. Currently, Apple Watch offers adequate battery life, however when you add LTE to the mix, it will be interesting to see how Apple handles this. Apple watch currently barely lasts a full day as it is.
Having LTE included in this year’s Apple Watch will no doubt be a great addition, but what about the appearance of the watch? Will Apple use the same design three years in a row? Commenting on Bloomberg’s report, John Gruber at Daring Fireball writes that Apple will introduce an “all-new form factor” in their line-up this year.
You can expect the new Apple Watch to be announced alongside the new iPhone announcement to take place in September.
