We’ve been waiting for months now and it’s finally here. Sonos’s long promised Alexa-powered smart speaker has been officially announced. Debut as Sonos One, the best and key feature for the smart speaker is that it integrates Amazon’s Alexa voice assistant via a dedicated Sonos Alexa skill. It features Class-D amplifiers, custom drivers, and touch controls.
Even though it’s currently powered by Amazon’s Alexa, the company said they will be bringing Google Assistant support later, in 2018. With Amazon’s Voice Assistant, not only will you be able to control music playback, but also access Alexa’s other functionality such as smart home and even asking for the weather.
Since this is a Sonos speaker, you will be able to integrate it with other Sonos equipment so you can play your music throughout your home. In addition, you can paid two of the Sonos speakers to create stereo sound, add a Sonos Sub or integrate them into a current Sonos-based home setup.
Concerned about privacy? The speaker has a light that’s hard-wired to the microphone, so if you’re worried about privacy, you can simply disconnect it to make sure it’s not listening to you.
