With Hurricane Harvey doing massive damage to Southern Texas, people from all of the state, as well as the country are making an effort to provide as much support as possible. Of those is the Dell Foundation, which has pledged to contribute $36 million for Harvey relief efforts.
Through their foundation, Michael and Susan Dell have pledged a whopping $36 million for Texas relief effort. $18 million of it comes through seed contribution, followed by a dollar matching pledge for up to another $18 million that will total out to $36 million.
Writing in a blog post, the Dells wrote that “Susan and I are committing $36M to this important work, by giving half this amount to launch the fund, and by starting a matching campaign that will kick off today and continue through midnight on Monday, September 4. During the campaign, we will match $1 for every $2 you donate.”
So far, the Dells represent as the single largest contribution to date for disaster relief efforts. Their goal is to raise $100 million via a combination of private contributions and dollar matching.
The Dells, how grew up in Texas, have a very close attachment. On their blog, they state that “this disaster is personal to everyone who has roots in Texas. Both of us were born and raised in Texas, and the street Michael grew up on in Houston is under water now.”
