Kazam: Former HTC execs start their own smartphone business

kazam8:While Apple and Samsung continue to take the crown when it comes to smartphone business, other companies are suffering and fighting to take third place.  Microsoft keeps pushing their Windows Phone, and even HTC has tried hard to gain traction to take over the third spot.  The company has yet to show any success, which is one reason why few HTC exec’s left and started their own smartphone business.

Let me introduce you to Kazam, a newly formed company by former HTC exec’s Michael Coombes and James Atkins.  Both left HTC’s UK branch earlier this year ahead of the HTC One launch.  Now they have formed their own company called Kazam, which brings new smartphones into the market to not only compete with HTC, but also compete with other companies.

Initial launch includes seven smartphones that the company has decided to launch.  The main goal of Kazam is to provide phones with an innovative business model while keeping costs down and widely making the phones available for everyone.  When you look at the specs, they aren’t something that might wow you, but this is the route the two exec’s decided to take.

The phones that Kazam has introduced are in two lineups:  Thunder and Trooper.  The Thunder line up is the most powerful, with models Q5.0 and Q4.5, bring 1.3GHz Quad Core processing power, 4GB internal storage, 1GB RAM, and up to 32GB expandable memory with Micro SD.  The Trooper line up is in second place, bringing models X3.5, X4.0, X4.5, X5.0 and X5.5 to the table.  Features included in this line up are (up to) 1.2GHz Dual Core processor, 4GB internal storage, 512MB RAM, and up to 32GB expandable memory with Micro SD.  You may notice the numbers next to each letter in model name, those are screen sizes for each device.

Another key feature included in all Kazam phones is that all will come with dual-SIM capability.  This means you will be able to host two lines in one phone.  These kinds of phones are very common in Asian countries and other places.

The company has yet to introduce pricing and availability for the phones.  But our best guess is that it won’t be long until the company makes everything public with a public press announcement.
