Amazon has made huge investments the development of Alexa services, whether it’s turning on your microwave or charging your plugged-in EV. The company now is making its next bold move. Today, Amazon has announced their new “Alexa Mobile Accessory Kit,” which is a software kit that will allow developers to hook up their Bluetooth-equipped wearables and headphones to voice-controlled services.
The “Alexa Mobile Accessory Kit” will enable OEM devices to connect over Bluetooth the Amazon’s Alexa Voice Service (AVS) through the Alexa app on Android or iOS devices. Right now, there are already devices that hook up to Amazon’s voice assistant, but being able to route through the app is a much better and light-weight option than building in the functionality via the AVS Device SDK.
With this easier option, it will help Amazon keep Alexa adoption ahead of its rival services like Google Assistant. There is one thing to keep in much, however. The kit isn’t ready to use immediately, rather is coming later this year. Developers can sign up here to be notified when it’s available to use.
