If you’re like me, you may have memberships to both Costco and Sam’s Club. Yes, you don’t need to try to hide it because we’re going to have a discussion about Costco. Sometimes, you may question why you’re keeping both Sam’s Club and Costco memberships and potentially want to cancel one or the other. Specifically for Costco, the membership costs between $60 to $120 per year, which may not be worthwhile for some members. Costco membership offers great value for individuals and families that are looking to take advantage of buying items in bulk, but at times may be worth it anymore for one reason or another.
Corporations like to have you jump through hoops to try and cancel their membership. Many companies have auto-billing set up to where they will charge your debit or credit card without first informing you of their renewal time. This happens all the time with both of my Costco and Sam’s Club memberships where I receive no notification, no email statement, no mail statement, but my card is charged. With annual memberships like Costco, it’s easy to incur charges for their services when either you don’t use it anymore or just want to outright cancel.
As you read below, we’ll show you how to cancel your Costco membership, if you have decided that you don’t need it anymore.
Here’s How to Cancel Your Costco Membership
If you want to cancel your Costco membership, there are two options that you can use:
- Call Costco membership services at 1-800-774-2678.
- Visit your nearest Costco warehouse and speak with a customer service representative at the membership counter to assist with your membership cancellation.
The first thing you will want to try is going to the nearest Costco warehouse to you and speaking with someone at the membership counter. This is, by far, the quickest way to get your membership canceled. Something to keep in mind is that you may be subject to a waiting line, depending on how crowded the Costco warehouse membership counter is.
If you prefer to cancel your via phone call, you can call Costco membership services at 1-800-774-2678. You’ll be greeted with an automated phone line and be told that you will need to call after the third of the month to cancel so that the membership fee that’s been charged on your account is already posted to your account. If it’s already past the 3rd of the month, then you should encounter no issues canceling your Costco membership.
If you’ve already paid your membership dues for the months and you’re well within the first few days of when you paid, you will want to let the representatives know your account number, the credit card that was used to pay the fees and confirm the amount that was billed. If all goes well, you will receive a refund and your membership will be canceled. Keep also in mind that if you have the Costco Anywhere Visa® Card by Citi, it will also be cancelled upon cancellation of your membership.
As a last note, you shouldn’t worry or think if you’re too late to cancel your membership. Costco has no restrictions on when you can cancel.
